National Champions- GOLD & SILVER titles

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.”
Baila Boogaloo has had such an amazing Spring whether it be Tough Mudder getting tough on us, introducing the legendary Jimmy Bosch @Lula or having Dancing With The Stars professional dancer Anna Trebunskaya treat us to private coaching. We’re grateful for the many lasting memories that we’ve able to share together as one big BB family!
On Saturday, May 18, BB Teens and BB’s amateur performance group travelled to the Hamilton Convention Centre for the Spring Tulip Classic Festival of Dance. The televised event hosts the North American Imperial Show Dance Championships and our two teams competed in the group formations category.

After a full morning and early afternoon of workshops (Baila Boogaloo taught three lessons), the team got ready for the stage. It had been three months of tireless rehearsals and continuous drills. It culminated with three minutes in front of the judges and fellow students, family and friends.

The results? Of seven competitors, BB amateur performance group took Gold and was also awarded with “best performance.” The BB Teens won Silver and were deemed “most entertaining.”

Of course, it felt good to win. Of course, it was amazing to see our dancers hold up their trophies and hug each other, flushed with elation. That moment was priceless.

But what makes us truly happy and extremely proud is seeing the teams be rewarded for their commitment, their hard work and their team spirit. That is what this is all about — showing the world your passion and supporting your team-mates.

And as if a sense of personal achievement wasn’t a prize enough, the amateur performance group received a private coaching session on Monday with international ballroom champion Anna Trebunskaya. She was equal parts funny and encouraging and strict and technical. (She whipped UFC fighter Chuck Liddell and boxing hall of famer Sugar Ray Leonard into shape on DTWS — we figured that we were in for a kick in the butt.) She talked about synchronicity and levels. She trained our dancers on accentuating certain parts of the body and stylizing their preps. We loved our time with her and can’t wait until the next time she rolls into town.

It’s been a fabulous season. Thanks for sharing the good times with us. Can’t wait for more!
